George Jones papers, 1796.

This collection contains a letter from Jonathan Homer to Jones, 1796, giving news of Jones' son, Noble, and his stepson Edward Campbell; a letter from John Y. Noel to Jones, 1796, stating his fee for drawing a will; resolutions from a meeting held in Savannah, 1796, regarding "insults offered to one of our Representatives in the late Legislature;" resolutions of the citizens of Savannah, signed by Jones, demanding a declaration of war against Great Britain and recommending hostilities against the French, as well as a recommendation for taking possession of East Florida and the erection of works at Fort Wayne; the "Rules and Regulations for the Office of Discount of Deposit in the City of Savannah;" and a list of some Jones family papers.

George Jones was born in Savannah, the son of Noble Wimberly Jones. He studied medicine under his father and practiced for several years. He was in the Revolutionary War in it last years, served in both houses of the Georgia Legislature, was an Alderman and Mayor of Savannah, judge of the Eastern Judicial Circuit of Georgia, and a member of the U.S. Senate in 1807.
